Who do we really think a hero is?

The standard dictionary defines a hero as a person who is admired or idealized for courage, outstanding achievements, or noble qualities.

That definition can be interpreted in many ways really, so why do we always think of a hero as someone who has fought in a war, or saved a life? I don’t mean to downplay that, because YES – those people are absolutely heroes. BUT – what about the everyday person who is fighting a battle within themselves and still manages to plant their feet on the floor every morning and do what they need to do to survive?

Hero?

Yep, I’d say so.

The everyday hero often gets overlooked and, at times, we know those heroes. They are our co-workers, the single mothers, the fathers, the people fighting mental illness, the teenage mother who put her child up for adoption, and the addicts who got clean. These are only examples of what a hero can look like because there are many more heroes out there!

What about when you want to say, ” I love you,” but you’re not sure if the other person feels the same. That takes courage – that is a hero.

What about working long shifts at work in order to be able to provide for your family, even though you know it’s not enough. You secretly think you’re a loser who will never be able to sufficiently provide for your family. Well, you’re a hero. You go out every day and give it your best. You most likely put yourself last, always.

Do you know who else I believe are heroes?

People who are disabled, but still manage to get through the day, because they are glad to be alive. Hero!

People who come home to their families when they have just been told: “You don’t work here anymore.” Hero!

To the mom who looks in the mirror and wonders where that little girl went? The one who dreamed of prince charming being her hero. Well, believe me, your kids believe you are that superhero.

But why don’t we celebrate the everyday hero?

A hero is someone who has the courage that comes from within. The fight goes on inside us all. It’s the fight to believe that we have what it takes to get through the day.

It is the women who know going to work every day means she might not be there for her children when they arrive home from school. It is the mother who might miss tucking them into bed at night. Who tiptoes into the bedroom and pull up the blankets against their tiny little bodies, brushes their hair back and whispers, ” I love you” as a tear slides down their cheek because they miss them so much. Hero for sure.

To the women who go hungry, because there’s not enough food in the house. You, my dear, are a hero.

To the woman who doesn’t have children and is ok with that. You are a hero because you’re able to speak and live in your truth, even though you might face some criticism.

To the women, like myself, who have lost children and now speak to them, as angels. You are a hero. You hold your head up when all you really want to do is lay down and cry and pray.

We are all heroes, we all beat to the same heart. We all have lessons and challenges to go through, hopefully with grace. But we are all the same, we are each other’s heroes. Someone somewhere is looking to you for strength. I know it can be difficult, but try to remember that when those dark days come flooding into your life. You are a hero. Someone looks up to you. It could be your child, it could be your spouse, your parent, your colleague and it also could be yourself searching for a miracle to brighten your dark days.

Look around you and see the everyday heroes in your life. Great job everyone!

This week I don’t have a top 5, as I truly believe we are all a hero in some way, and it is up to us to see the value we truly hold. What is your definition of a hero? I would love to read your comments.

The heart of human excellence often begins to beat when you discover a pursuit that absorbs you, frees you, challenges you, or gives you a sense of meaning, joy, or passion.” — Terry Orlick

I love that quote! It is so true – discovering your purpose in life, letting go of the things that no longer serve you and embracing the things that do, will give you a reason to get up every day and this is pure happiness. I think it all begins with celebrating you! Discovering that passion by making sure you are in the right mindset.

Here are my top ways to celebrate me – every day. It is time to stop putting yourself at the bottom of the pile and to stop saving things for a special occasion. You are here now and every day you are on this earth should be valued and celebrated!

Here are my top 5 ways of celebrating me, every day.

  1. Sleep routine – make sure you go to bed and wake up at the same time. Get into the habit of turning your phone off, keeping it out of the bedroom. If you have a television in your bedroom, remove it.
  2. Eat healthy food, food that nourishes you. If you’re wondering what that looks like. Eat as many colours as you can. The non-processed kind. What does processed food look like? Read this. Drink plenty of water
  3. Move your body. If you’re in pain the best thing for you to do is to move. Stretch it over pushing it. I much prefer a good stretch, for example, yoga over something that is going to be hard on my body. Exercise should not be a punishment, it is to celebrate that you have a body that moves. It’s designed for it. So now use it.
  4. Clean up your environment. What I mean by this is to clean up your space around you. Your car, your home, your workplace. Is it cluttered and disorganized? Give yourself the gift of a clean space and celebrate you. Hire outside help if you need it – don’t feel guilty!
  5. Detox your friend’s list. Do you have people around you that make you feel guilty for not calling them? Does seeing that person stress you out? Some people come into our lives and they are there forever because of mutual love, interests, and enjoyment. Others come into our lives perhaps at a time when you need them, and unfortunately, you may grow apart or your mutual interests change. These people served a time and a place and it’s now time to let them go so they grow in another direction. Look at it this way, you might also be holding them back because they’re growing in a way that’s not aligned with you anymore. Your paths crossed and now it’s time to move on. You can love some people from a distance and this also includes family members too.

In summary, in order to move forward in your life, you need to change your mindset, let go of people or situations that no longer serve you and truly sit down with yourself for a long-overdue talk. Make a plan, a routine. Work on disconnecting yourself from old grudges. Get healthy by eating nutritious foods – move that body! Get out into nature. Turn off the electronics when you go to bed. Perhaps open the window and listen to the night sounds (hopefully not a busy freeway!!). Think back to times in your life when you truly felt happy – what is different now? Make positive changes and seek help if you need it.

We spend most of our waking hours at work, away from our homes, working for someone else.

It is in our workspace that we are rewarded the most. It’s where we get told we are doing a good job, or not, where we will get our ego’s stroked with promotions, and pay raises. During those hours we are typically at our best. We start our days by preparing for our job. Shower, get cleaned up. Heck, it’s the reason we wake up. We look our best, we act our best – for work. No wonder then that our friendships and love affairs begin at work.

Have you ever fantasized about someone at work? Stood by the office water cooler and gossiped about someone else? Perhaps hooked up, maybe even during business hours? Do you go to social events with co-workers? Are you obligated to attend social events for your job? There are team building events everywhere these days. It seems like everyone wants us to be family. I don’t know about you but, I don’t always get along with my family.

Getting along at work can sometimes be confusing. Some will take advantage of kindness, and it may be for a personal gain. Who can you trust? I have seen this time and time again. Someone thinks they are budding a new relationship, when in fact it’s their job to be nice to you and treat you well. You are paying them for a service, don’t get it twisted.

Did you meet your friends at work? Your partner? Did it come at a cost of losing some friends from your past? Did it cost you a marriage?

It’s great to have things in common outside of work and to be able to have the shared experience of working at the same place, but here’s the flip side of that coin. Have you ever been stabbed in the back by someone you trusted? People can be different when it comes to money and the thought of power.

If a new position comes up at work do you drop the friendship to fight for it?

There are so many things we could talk about when it comes to relationships and the workforce. The workplace has its woes and misguided friendships and budding romances, but what we have to remember is that it is up to us to decide where we work, how we act at work and whether or not we get swept up in the B.S.

Knowing your own value is a key component. Do you know yours? Are you selling out your friends or yourself? If you move, do your friendships come with you or will they diminish in the distance?

What’s your value? Have you ever had a bad work relationship experience that you would like to share?

I am moving to our new house next week and that is so exciting! I love moving, I love changing things up, and I love to start fresh! Who feel alone, who don’t feel worthy, who are at a crossroads and don’t know which path to take. I have been there, and that is why I must help them to grow and tend to their own self-pride.

Ladies we all can use a little more self-pride. So, join our community. Not only to be inspired, but to be supported in your journey with your life renovation. This is my passion and my calling because I know that life is meant to be easy and can be so much better.

Learn how to let go of it. We must lead by example, we don’t need a fancy career and wear money on the outside to look like a leader. No. That’s how we got here in the first place.

Your life is an example, for the next generation. To all the little girls looking up to you in awe.

You set the stage for your life. Is it one you are proud of? Do you have a plan? A direction? Does your circle of friends and family reflect your life today and the future to where you want to go?

The Loneliness Epidemic
Have your heard of this and do you think it’s a real thing today?
Here’s a theory I have. I believe it is a real thing and it’s scarey as heck. We are more disconnected than ever before but more disconnected from ourselves. Even though we have multiple ways of connecting, quicker, easier to just about anywhere in the world. But here’s the problem.

We don’t share authentically..and We have not caught up to the speed of technology yet.

Think back to when we use to take a picture. Typically it was a fancy thing and we had to go to a studio and have out portrait taken by a professional. We got all dressed up. Or your picture might of been taken by someone at a party, a special event. Then you had to wait for the pictures to be developed and once they came back to you. You went through them and would only showcase the good ones.
Well we do the samething today, and we only show the good ones. Back in the day, we were living socially more open, we socialized more in person and stayed close to family etc.We knew what was going on, and what was happening in the neighbourhood.

Today this is not the case, we barely know our next door neigbours, Today we keep our doors locked and windows dark. Our families are not living near us at all and we only share time with them online or for special occasions.

I think this is why we have more crimes, more homelessness and on and on it goes. We care more in a way, and we have more ways of reaching out but less connections that are real.

We miss the perfect person behind the perfection we see everywhere.
This is may even be why seeing a homeless person is difficult..we don’t know how to handle it and know that it could be us. They just couldn’t keep the mask up like the rest of us.

When you are wanting to change your life, are you also changing your environment?
What does your home say about you?
What about your transformation to and from work?
Your workplace, is it a place you enjoy?

Taking a look at these is very important. If you are wanting to stop an addiction you remove the addiction from your life. But what about as you change yourself, you age as times goes on do you also change the environment around you?

We all go through changes in our lives, but what can you change? Are you holding onto things out of guilt or pressure from family and friends? Are you keeping things in your life just out of habits?

I love changing my own environment and I think it is one of the key factors in creating lasting change in your life. First is to assess your home, the space around you. If you like it, then move on. If not then you must figure out what it is that you really want in your life. Does the space around you lift you up and make you happy? If not, then list the things you want for your home.

I have always moved, and transformed my space around me to suite my needs at the time. I am not afraid to get rid of things but I also keep the things I love and use. Most of the things in my home have multiple purposes. I love function and being efficient and always keeping in mind safety. And lastly beauty, the space will look beautiful because it works for my life today, not twenty years ago.

Create lasting change in your life by creating the space you want to be in. Stop avoiding your life and live your life today.

All this month we are sharing our home.
We are sharing how we live. What keeping a home means to us.

Welcome to our home.
All this month I am sharing my home & how we live in it. How I deal with clutter & staying organized, storage solutions.
I am talking about our environment & why it’s so important, how it sets up for success in our life or tears us down.

When I talk about environment, it means more to me than what we normally think of and this thing we need to save and yes I know it’s important and does need us to help it out and yes we do need to care more about it but we also need to look at the immediate environment that surrounds us. I am talking about our home the building in which you live in as well as your work place and even including your car or how you get to work.

We’ve all heard you are the result of the five people who hang around with the most but I am also saying you are the result of your immediate environment as well.

If you start your day hitting the snooze button and over sleeping every day and when you do get up you struggle to find the things you need to get out the door quickly, then we can all agree on that you are not starting your day very successfully. Success to me means, success in life not just in business and money. But success for your own life.

All this month I will share how my husband and I share our home. How we keep things neat and organized and safe for all. ( I am big on safety)

I never use to be like this. I actually grew up quite the opposite and perhaps that’s why I am like that now. It took me some time to get it and there are still days I struggle with it. Yes the laundry piles up, and the sink gets filled with dishes, and there are even days where I can’t find something I need. But thankfully I have more good days.

I also love having my space being fully functionable for me and my family. The space has to work for how we are going to use it. I have changed living rooms into bedrooms, and bedrooms into closets.

I have set up over twenty homes from a sprawling ranch bungalow to an upper condo, and basement apartments. Reorganized multiple business in a variety of industries to become more efficient and make more money.

Creating a home that rises to greet you as soon as you open the door, being welcomed with the first few steps inside. Having your space work for you, having the security of knowing it is safe but also looks beautiful. Your home needs to be a reflection of who you are. If you want to change your life, start with your environment. Welcome.

Do you feel like you’re downing in debt and can’t catch your breath? Has this been going on for a long time? Are you life lines being cut off? Do you fear homelessness? It seems most of us are living on the edge and just one paycheck away from being on the streets. It can happen to just about anybody.

I take this topic very seriously and I know there’s no quick fix but I know there is a fix. This is why I create Renovate-Your Life in the first place. To not only give hope and a pray but to help set up yourself for who you really want to become. We are not our circumstances, that is what happens to us when are striving to become a better version of us. Life is not all roses, and happy times, no, life is not a fairy tale. We need the balance to help remind us which direction we need to be going in. Life is working for us not against us.

Sometimes hanging on is all we can do but you have to be hanging onto something that is worth it. You my dear are worth it.

We have become a world in search of something but get distracted by what someone else wants me to see. This is why so many are lost. I say look up, look up to the light, look up to the eyes that are looking at you. See the smile from that one person who truely loves you. You matter and losing money is not the end of the world, it’s just an ending in a chapter of book that has many more chapters. Notice the things that money cannot buy. Start by looking in the mirror and see the mirror you are.

As I shared last week in Steps 8 and 9, we found more money. All too often we stay stuck in fear and forget that we have other options. And debt is one of those examples that cripples us in fear and we do nothing other than worry. Which stresses us out, put strains on our work, and can damage relationships that can last a lifetime.
I wanted to shine a light on some new ways we can add value to our lives and to show you where the money is.

Picking up extra shifts at work is one of the first things, if you have a job if not get your ass out there and get one. Are you able to do something part time on top of your regular employment?

I love this exercise:
Take 15 minutes to do this.
Make a list of all the things you’re good at.
All the things you love to do.
Anything you have talent in.
I mean Everything. This includes walking, if you can.
Look at that list, give yourself a pat on the back. There’s more than you thought.
Now from this list, what can do right away to make more money?

What can you can do in your community that will bring you more money? Every little bit helps.
Is there something that you already have that you can use to actually make you more money? Like a sewing machine; where you can sew for other people? Do you have a kitchen; maybe you could cook for others. Use what you have.
Get out and see where you can be useful. Is there a local community center near that you ask.

Here are some more ideas:
Sell what you do not need or use. Clothing, electronics, furniture. You can sell online or in person.
Have a yard sale and sell the belongings you have that you don’t use.
Downsize your home into something that fits your current income. Why are you keeping a home you cannot afford? Coming home to a place that causes you stress isn’t worth it.
Get rid of the big car, you can find one without payments.

When shopping check out your local thrift store only if there’s something you need. Or see if you can get it for free. Maybe someone is getting rid of that thing you say you need.
When grocery shopping try to do so in bulk. Price match and use coupons when available.
You can even share with a friend – this is where you buy the bigger bulk items and split it as the stores sometimes sell them at a lower price.
Get creative in the kitchen, learn new recipes. Host or go to a pot-luck dinner where everyone brings something to share. Share recipes with others. Get the family involved. Let someone help.
Reuse when at all possible, stop using dishes that you just throw away. Stop using the dishwasher.
Did you know that in some areas your electricity costs more during peak hours. Do your laundry in the off peak hours. And hang up your clothes if at all possible.
Turn down your heat if you’re paying for it. Put on a sweater and an extra blanket at night when sleeping.
Do a clothing swap if you need to change your wardrobe, this is great for business attire and kids clothes if they don’t wreck them first. Purchasing kids clothes is great to do at a thrift store, they’ll grow out of it so quickly anyways.
Maybe you can find someone to trade with. If you need some help with repairs, or if you have extra of something trade with someone else in your community.
Ask if around, if you need something chances are someone may be wanting to get rid of the very thing you need.

We’ve all come through difficult times. And money is one of those things we are still learning about. They teach us how to count when we are in school but nothing about money. Having money issues is the leading cause for relationship issues, health issues, and so on. You are not your circumstances, you are the result of some choices you made along the way and those choices can be changed. You can come out of this and on the other side is a brighter side to life. Taking control over your money and finding more of it is just one way to help you along your journey.

Oh and don’t forget to check the sofa…

Good Morning Everyone.

Last night I did it. I am so excited to share with you that I actually followed through with a dream of mine. It’s a wonderful start to something magical. I actually got up in front of a crowd and read out loud some of my writings. It was incredible. I conquered a fear and came out the other side of it feeling better than I have in a very long time. I had pride for following through with a dream of mine. And it was well received. Just a small quaint group but nonetheless I did it.

Last night I was wanting to do more, I was addicted to it right then and there. I wanted more. I even mentioned once it was all over that I should hold one in my home considering they were not going to be holding another one until February or March. That seems like such a long way off.

Also just to show you how the world works in this mysterious way. A woman asked to sit next to me and I said of course. We both read our writings and when she finished I shared with her what a great job she did and that it was no mistake that she sat next to me. Out of all the people to have sitting next to me and all the tables she chose it was mine. Her writing and mine were similar by which it is of the spirit….We both believe in the spirit force that surrounds, that creates us, that holds us together rather than apart. We are all one. I was and I guess still am in shock. Amazing. I gave her my phone number and asked her to go for coffee or whatever sometime. Her story is also like mine in the fact that she is new to town as well and do not know too many people here either.

What glorious ways the energy works and in perfect timing. Love it.

I am definitely moving in the right directions of my dreams. It feels so right.

Yesterday I was trying to figure out a way to get of it as well. So glad that didn’t happen. However my ego and pain body really wanted to find any way possible to achieve this, to get out of what ‘they’ thought would be more pain. I read and re-read a few other books of mine trying to find one that seemed to make sense to me. However nothing I had wrote was making sense to me. My sentence structure and grammar were all of sudden notorious I had no faith left inside for me. All of the sudden I had nothing to present and I felt like a failure. I knew it wasn’t my true self, I knew I would have to push through it and be the true self. The one I’ve tried so long to be and this was the opportunity I’ve been waiting for so long. Understanding that everything happens when it needs to and so forth, now was the perfect time for this to happen. Eric came home and tried to get of it again sharing my despair with him. He was perfect and said I can do it, to just read and keep it flowing. He knew I could do or at least let on that I could or should. It was the first thing I’ve ever wanted to do just for me. Ever. Finally.

So here I am the day after, still with the glow on me. I am sitting at my desk writing this and wanting to share it with the world. I think I’m ready. I think the world is ready for me too.

I finally get the message to never give up on your dreams. To never give up on yourself.

To think back to all things that had to line up for this to have had happened the way it did is simply amazing.

I am now living in a community who cherishes their arts. I am among others who support one another. I am living with a person who loves me and believes in my dreams. I am in a town that has a beautiful library- to think I enjoy going to a library. I had never been to one until I was an adult. To get me into one and be happy there, then finding the posting for this writer’s cafe and then signing up for it right there on the spot. That’s incredible. Everything had to be lined up perfectly. Not my perfect but the divine energy’s perfect. Even for me to have the courage to do any of the above impresses me. I use to be the really quiet one who dream secretly and not share any of them.
